Fig. 1. Measurement of fovea-optic disc distances and macular curvature. (A) Fovea-optic disc distances: the distance between the center of the macular hole and the optic disc (dotted line with double arrowheads) was divided by the vertical diameter of the optic disc (solid line with double arrowheads). All measurements were taken manually using the caliper function of Cirrus OCT. (B) Macular curvature: 21 points were plotted along the retinal pigment epithelium at 300 μm intervals (orange dots). A second-order polynomial equation (ax2 + bx + c) best fit with the plots was deter-mined using ImageJ. Coefficient a (7.16 × 10-4) represents the steepness of the RPE curve. The solid line with arrowheads indicates distances of 3000 μm from the fovea to the nasal and temporal side, respectively. OCT = optical coherence tomography; RPE = retinal pigment epithelium.
