Schematic diagram of a square grid presents macular deformation assessed by the displacement of retinal vasculature after surgical closure of macular hole. The arrows represent postoperative displacement of the nodes. The length of the arrow is enlarged three times of the actual displacement of each node for enhanced visualization. The deformation of the grid (the difference in the coordinates between adjacent nodes, blue and red lines) and the vertical displacement of the foveal center (red dot) were significantly correlated with M-score in multiple regression analysis (blue: vertical M-score, red: horizontal M-score, *p<0.05), and the photoreceptor displacement theory is supported as the mechanism of metamorphopsia.
